A good essay consists of three parts
- Body (usually at least three paragraphs)
In this paragraph you establish how you intent to answer the question. This is probably going to be quite brief. The objective of the introduction is to get reader’s attention and to present the most important points which need to be addressed in your essay.
For a good essay you need a strong thesis. You need to write a thesis so that the reader can relate to the paragraphs in the body section.
A strong thesis would be:
Americans should eliminate the regular consumption of fast food because the fast food diet leads to preventable and expensive health issues, such as diabetes, obesity, and heart disease.
This is where all the action happens! Body paragraphs help you prove your thesis and makes it easy for the reader to connect each paragraph back to the introduction.
From the above example of thesis, diabetes, obesity and heart disease would be the topics explained in your body paragraphs. You should support or justify them, preferably in the order the assertions originally stated in the thesis.
This is also where you will present evidence in support of your arguments. Evidences can be quotations, statistics or narratives. Don’t go over board with elaborating on the evidences just keep it simple and to the point. However, ensure that the evidence truly backs up your argument and not vaguely. This is what is going to impact the reader.
This is the last paragraph of the essay. That means it’s your last chance to impress and leave reader with additional thought. Basically, you will be summarizing the points in your essay. Don’t repeat exact words from other paragraphs; rather, paraphrase it. You could be little persuasive in your writing so it may let the reader to think about it. Leave the reader with an interesting final impression. You can consider ending it with a famous quotation or anecdote.
Essay writing test is about showing your writing skills. It is also about how well you deliver the message to the reader.
